Your engineers already ask Claude Code or Cursor to explain a stack trace or write a migration. With the LevelFour MCP server, the same chat answers why the bill went up, which saving to roll out next, and when the next commitment expires.

## Connect in one command

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http levelfour https://mcp.levelfour.ai/mcp
```

Run `/mcp` in Claude Code and choose Authenticate. Your browser opens LevelFour's [approval screen](https://docs.levelfour.ai/mcp/approving-a-connection), where an organization administrator approves the connection for one organization. No key is copied and nothing lands in a config file. The token lasts an hour, refreshes on its own, and works at this server and nowhere else. An approval request stays open for ten minutes and works once.

Claude, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, Antigravity, and any other MCP client [connect the same way](https://docs.levelfour.ai/mcp/authentication). To wire several clients on one machine at once, [`l4 mcp install`](https://docs.levelfour.ai/cli/commands/mcp/install) writes the server into each of them with an API key.

## What it answers

| Area | Ask it |
| --- | --- |
| Spend | What did we spend last month, by service and by account, and where will this month land? |
| Changes | Which services grew the most between the last two months, and was it price or volume? |
| Teams | What did each team spend, using our virtual tags? |
| Savings | What are the ten largest open savings, with their monthly value and risk? |
| Commitments | Which Reserved Instances and Savings Plans expire this quarter, and what would renewing them save? |
| Spikes and alerts | Did anything spike in September, and which cost alerts fired? |

The server registers [60 tools](https://docs.levelfour.ai/mcp/tools), 21 of which write, and ships 5 prompts and 4 resources with them. The [prompts](https://docs.levelfour.ai/mcp/prompts-and-resources) walk a model through a full analysis in the right order, and Claude Code runs each one as a slash command, such as `/mcp__levelfour__monthly_bill_review 2026-07`. The resources list the services, accounts, tags, and environments your data contains, so the model filters on values that exist.

## What it can change

Tick Also allow changes when you approve a connection, and an agent can decide a saving, choose how it is delivered, and start its rollout. It can also raise a commitment renewal or purchase, arm, change, or pause a cost alert, close an anomaly, and define a virtual tag. LevelFour applies each saving afterwards, through the route your team picked, and a raised renewal or purchase waits for an organization administrator to release it.

Every tool resolves your organization from the credential, never from an argument. A connection approved for reading never sees the tools that write, and the server refuses them even when an agent asks for one by name. Settings > API Keys > Connected Applications lists every connection, and closing one there cuts its credential off on the next call.

## Prompts that work as written

```text
Using LevelFour, what did we spend in September 2026, and how did that
compare with August?
Our cloud bill went up. Using LevelFour, tell me which services grew the
most in dollars between the last two comparable periods, then for the
largest one find the day the change started and tell me whether it was a
price change or a volume change.
```

Name a full month rather than "this month" when you want a number that holds still, because the current month is partial. The [Ask it this](https://docs.levelfour.ai/mcp/ask-it-this) page has more prompts and the tools each one lands on.

## Get started

The MCP server comes with every LevelFour plan. The [MCP docs](https://docs.levelfour.ai/mcp) cover each client, the approval screen, and every tool.

[Start with LevelFour](https://levelfour.ai/sign-up) and ask your agent about your bill.

## Frequently asked questions

### Which AI clients work with the LevelFour MCP server?

Claude Code, Claude, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, Antigravity, and any other client that speaks the Model Context Protocol over HTTP. [What is the Model Context Protocol?](https://levelfour.ai/glossary/model-context-protocol.md).

### Can an agent change my cloud through the MCP server?

No tool touches a cloud resource or buys anything itself. An agent records decisions and starts rollouts in LevelFour, LevelFour applies each saving through the route your team picked, and commitment purchases wait for an administrator to release them.

### Can I connect with an API key instead of signing in?

Yes. The server accepts a LevelFour API key in the `Authorization` header, which suits unattended agents. `l4 mcp install` sets clients up that way.

### What if I belong to two LevelFour organizations?

Connect twice under different names and approve each connection for its own organization. Each connection reads only the organization it was approved for.
