Pick Vantage if you want to start today on a self-serve plan, with 40+ integrations and reports you build yourself. Pick CloudZero if your main job is reporting cost per customer, product, or feature, and you want one subscription that includes everything, bought through a sales quote. Both can report cost per customer, so that call is our judgment.

We read both vendors' pricing pages, documentation, and AWS Marketplace listings on November 1, 2026, and we link our sources throughout. We make LevelFour, a third option covered near the end, so read that section knowing who wrote it.

## Who should pick Vantage?

Pick Vantage if you want to connect your accounts, start building reports the same day (the first AWS CUR can take up to 24 hours), and see the price before you talk to anyone. The [Starter plan](https://www.vantage.sh/pricing) is free up to $2,500 of monthly cloud spend, and Pro and Business come with a 14-day free trial.

- Connect [40+ integrations](https://www.vantage.sh/integrations), from AWS and Google Cloud to Datadog, Snowflake, OpenAI, and Anthropic, and bring others as [Custom Providers](https://docs.vantage.sh/connecting_custom_providers) by CSV or API.
- Group spend with [virtual tags](https://docs.vantage.sh/tagging) and leave your cloud infrastructure as it is.
- Import [business metrics](https://docs.vantage.sh/business_metrics) to see cost per customer, unit cost, and gross margin on a cost report.
- Query your costs from Claude or Cursor through an [open source MCP server](https://docs.vantage.sh/vantage_mcp), hosted by Vantage or by you.

Best for: engineering and FinOps teams that want broad coverage and a self-serve start.

## Who should pick CloudZero?

Pick CloudZero if finance and engineering need one answer to what each customer, product, or feature costs. CloudZero sells [a single subscription with all capabilities included](https://www.cloudzero.com/pricing): unlimited users, unlimited cost sources, hourly granularity, and multi-year data retention.

- Build [Dimensions](https://docs.cloudzero.com/docs/organize-your-costs) from the accounts, services, and regions already in your bill. CloudZero says you do not need clean resource tags to start.
- Send a business metric through a telemetry stream, and [Unit Economics](https://docs.cloudzero.com/docs/unit-economics) returns cost per customer, transaction, API call, or feature.
- Get [global anomaly detection](https://docs.cloudzero.com/docs/anomaly-detection) when you connect, with no setup. It emails Admin users by default, and alerts on a specific View need turning on.
- Bring other sources through [AnyCost](https://docs.cloudzero.com/docs/custom-data-sources) by writing a small adaptor, and ask questions from Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex through [AI Hub](https://docs.cloudzero.com/docs/ai-getting-started).

Best for: companies whose finance team tracks margin by customer or product and wants engineering on the same numbers.

## How do Vantage and CloudZero allocate cost?

Vantage's [virtual tags](https://docs.vantage.sh/tagging) are tags you create from values and filters, and you use them in cost reports and resource reports. They can also split a shared cost by another set of costs, by a [business metric](https://docs.vantage.sh/business_metrics) you import, or by fixed percentages, and you can manage them through the API or Terraform.

CloudZero's [Dimensions](https://docs.cloudzero.com/docs/dimensions) group costs in Dimension Studio or in CostFormation YAML, which you can keep in version control. They split a shared cost evenly, in proportion to other spend, or by telemetry you send, such as API calls per customer. Both products can split a shared cost by a usage metric you send, which suits a multi-tenant product where a tag can't name the customer.

## How do they handle Kubernetes?

Vantage runs [its own agent](https://docs.vantage.sh/kubernetes_agent) on EKS, AKS, GKE, and OKE, and on on-premises clusters with custom rates. It [reports cost](https://docs.vantage.sh/kubernetes) by cluster, namespace, service, and label, and shows efficiency down to the pod. Those costs stay out of your tracked spend, because Vantage already counts the underlying cluster bill.

CloudZero's [agent](https://docs.cloudzero.com/docs/kubernetes) runs on EKS, AKS, GKE, OKE, and self-managed clusters, and reports cost by cluster, namespace, workload, and label. EKS SCAD and GKE cost allocation are lighter options: SCAD has no labels, and GKE cost allocation has no usage data or idle cost. Its [Kubernetes recommendations](https://docs.cloudzero.com/docs/kubernetes-recommendations) need the agent, and they flag workloads with CPU or memory over-provisioned by 30% or more.

## What happens after a recommendation?

Both products find savings. They differ in the next step.

Vantage can act for you on AWS. [Autopilot](https://docs.vantage.sh/autopilot), on Pro and above, buys Compute and Database Savings Plans, on your approval or automatically once you turn that on. The [FinOps Agent](https://docs.vantage.sh/vantage_finops_agent) works from Slack, on its own or with an owner's approval, and removes waste such as unattached EBS volumes, obsolete snapshots, and idle load balancers. Vantage's documentation lists AWS for automated remediation today and plans Azure, Google Cloud, and Datadog. [Cost recommendations](https://docs.vantage.sh/cost_recommendations) themselves cover AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Datadog, Kubernetes, and Cloudflare, and Vantage can create [Jira issues](https://docs.vantage.sh/jira) from recommendation reports.

CloudZero's [Optimize](https://docs.cloudzero.com/docs/optimize) names each resource, the estimated savings, and how to address it, across AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and Kubernetes. Your team can [set a status and open a Jira work item](https://docs.cloudzero.com/docs/working-with-recommendations), send it to ServiceNow or Slack, or route it to an AI tool through MCP, and addressed recommendations count toward realized savings. We found no CloudZero documentation of CloudZero making the change itself, and its native connections are read-only.

## How much do Vantage and CloudZero cost?

Vantage publishes [its plans](https://www.vantage.sh/pricing), and it checks each limit against the previous month's costs:

| Plan | Price | Monthly cloud spend | Users |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Starter | Free | $2,500 | 3 |
| Pro | $30 a month | $7,500 | 5 |
| Business | $200 a month | $20,000 | 10 |
| Enterprise | Custom | Unlimited | Unlimited |

Enterprise is a metered percentage of your cloud spend, or a fixed quote with a 12-month minimum. Two optional features charge a share of savings. Autopilot takes 5% of the savings it finds. The FinOps Agent takes 10% of the realized savings from its automated actions. Vantage's pricing page lists the automated agent on Enterprise only, its docs say paying customers, and free trials are excluded, so confirm your plan. Its docs also mention token consumption charges, and we found no published rate.

CloudZero's site asks you to [request a custom quote](https://www.cloudzero.com/pricing) and publishes no price. Its [AWS Marketplace listing](https://aws.amazon.com/marketplace/pp/prodview-qvzdmjdawnphe) gives a reference point: $19 a month for each $1,000 of monthly AWS spend on a 1-month contract, or $209 per unit on a 12-month contract. The listing says "overages and limitations apply" and does not detail them. Vantage's [Enterprise listing](https://aws.amazon.com/marketplace/pp/prodview-qsrhi3ckrpkfu) charges $200 a month plus 1% of monthly cloud costs over $20,000. Here is what those rates come to:

| Monthly AWS spend | Vantage | CloudZero at $19 per $1,000 |
| --- | --- | --- |
| $7,000 | $30 (Pro) | $133 |
| $20,000 | $200 (Business) | $380 |
| $50,000 | $500 (Enterprise listing) | $950 |
| $200,000 | $2,000 (Enterprise listing) | $3,800 |

Worked from published rates on November 1, 2026, before any negotiated discount. CloudZero's rate covers AWS spend and carries limits its listing does not detail. Both vendors sell contracts at other rates.

## How to choose between Vantage and CloudZero

- Start with the report you owe. If leadership asks for cost per customer or feature every month, test CloudZero's Dimensions and Unit Economics first.
- List your sources. Both connect AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Oracle Cloud, OpenAI, Anthropic, Cursor, Datadog, and Snowflake. Check everything else against [Vantage's integrations](https://www.vantage.sh/integrations) and [CloudZero's connections](https://docs.cloudzero.com/docs/connect-your-cost-data).
- Decide who makes the change. If you run on AWS and want software to act, read how Vantage's agent and its permissions work. If your team works from tickets, compare both: CloudZero opens Jira and ServiceNow work items from each recommendation, and Vantage creates Jira issues from recommendation reports.
- Price it at your real spend, including next year's. Above $20,000 a month, ask both vendors for a quote and compare those numbers, because contract rates differ from these figures.

## A third option: LevelFour

LevelFour fits when your list of savings is long and nobody has time to ship them. It applies each saving for you or opens a pull request in your repository, on AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, and Kubernetes, and Savings Audit confirms the result on your bill.

It sells two products, so compare them separately. Cloud Savings costs 30% of savings, charged after they appear on your bill, on a 12-month agreement; nothing if nothing is saved. The Governance & Visibility platform is a [monthly fee](https://levelfour.ai/pricing.md): Pro at $30 (up to $2,500 of tracked spend), Scale at $200 (up to $7,500), and Enterprise custom. Every plan includes the API, CLI, MCP, and a cost check on pull requests. The FinOps agent in Slack and merge guardrails are on Enterprise.

If unit cost by customer is your main report, start with CloudZero. If you want the longer list of native integrations and a self-serve start, start with Vantage. We compare LevelFour with each one in [LevelFour vs Vantage](https://levelfour.ai/compare/levelfour-vs-vantage.md) and [LevelFour vs CloudZero](https://levelfour.ai/compare/levelfour-vs-cloudzero.md).

## Frequently asked questions

### Is Vantage or CloudZero cheaper?

On the published rates we found, Vantage comes out lower at each level we priced: $200 against $380 a month at $20,000 of AWS spend, and $2,000 against $3,800 at $200,000. That is not like for like. Vantage's lower plans cap users and retention and leave out RBAC, its savings fees are extra, and CloudZero's rate covers AWS spend with limits its listing does not detail. Get a quote at your own spend. [Vantage pricing](https://www.vantage.sh/pricing).

### Is Vantage free?

Vantage's Starter plan is free up to $2,500 of monthly cloud spend, with 3 users and 40+ supported providers. Above your tier, Vantage obscures your cost data until you upgrade. Pro and Business come with a 14-day free trial.

### Does CloudZero have a free plan?

CloudZero's pricing page offers one subscription by custom quote and names no free plan. Its AWS Marketplace listing offers a free trial under terms the vendor sets. [CloudZero pricing](https://www.cloudzero.com/pricing).

### Can Vantage or CloudZero apply savings for you?

Vantage can on AWS, depending on your plan: Autopilot buys Savings Plans, and the FinOps Agent runs automated remediation from Slack, with or without an owner's approval. We found no CloudZero documentation of CloudZero making the change itself, and its native connections are read-only. Optimize tracks each recommendation, sends it to Jira, ServiceNow, Slack, or an AI tool through MCP, and reports realized savings.

### Do Vantage and CloudZero track AI costs?

Yes. Both connect to OpenAI, Anthropic, and Cursor, and both offer an MCP server for asking about your costs from an AI tool. Vantage lists 11 AI integrations in all. CloudZero adds Google Vertex and Gemini, AWS Bedrock, and Fireworks through AI Signals, which shows estimated costs.

### What are the alternatives to Vantage and CloudZero?

Finout, IBM Cloudability, CloudHealth, Datadog Cloud Cost Management, and LevelFour all cover this ground. Our guide to FinOps tools compares ten of them. [The best FinOps tools](https://levelfour.ai/blog/best-finops-platforms.md).
