LevelFour vs PerfectScale
LevelFour's Kubernetes module is a standalone product that optimizes the full stack, workload and compute, and ships every change as a reviewable pull request by default. Buy just Kubernetes, or add Cloud Savings and Cost Governance later.
Kubernetes rightsizing and governance.
PerfectScale is a capable Kubernetes rightsizing tool. By default it recommends, and it can apply changes autonomously inside the live cluster (with ArgoCD/Flux integration); its flagship is Kubernetes-focused, with cloud rate optimization in a separate product.
The difference is breadth and execution: LevelFour spans cloud and Kubernetes across the workload and compute layers, then lands every change as a reviewable, GitOps-native pull request your ArgoCD or Flux pipeline applies, with opt-in apply and rollback, so your code stays the source of truth instead of drifting. Three independent modules mean one vendor, paying only for what you use.
What is PerfectScale?
PerfectScale is a Kubernetes optimization and governance platform that rightsizes pods (PodFit) and nodes (InfraFit). DoiT acquired it in 2025. PerfectScale for Commitments is now GA (2026), offering autonomous rate and commitment optimization for AWS and Google Cloud, with Azure on the roadmap.
LevelFour vs PerfectScale: side by side
| LevelFour | PerfectScale | |
|---|---|---|
| Primary focus | Complete platform: cloud and Kubernetes cost optimization, with execution | Kubernetes rightsizing and governance |
| Cloud coverage | AWS, GCP, and Azure, plus Kubernetes (144 services) | Kubernetes optimization across AWS, GCP, Azure, and RedHat clusters; a separate product adds AWS and GCP rate optimization, with Azure on the roadmap |
| Kubernetes | Kubernetes-native via an in-cluster controller, full-depth across the workload layer (pod CPU/memory requests and limits, HPA, VPA, rightsizing) and the compute layer (nodes, EC2, Karpenter, instance selection, consolidation, spot) | Autonomous pod (PodFit) and node (InfraFit) rightsizing |
| How changes are applied | A merge-ready IaC pull request by default (Terraform, Pulumi, CloudFormation, or Kubernetes manifests), applied through your ArgoCD or Flux GitOps pipeline, or opt-in automated apply (manual is also available for cloud), with the exact diff and rollback on regression. | Recommends by default; opt-in autonomous apply patches the live cluster (ArgoCD/Flux integration). Does not author a pull request in your repo. |
| GitOps and drift | Drift-free and GitOps-native: the PR merges into the repo your ArgoCD or Flux pipeline already watches, so Git stays the source of truth. | With autonomous apply enabled it patches the live cluster (can drift); documents ArgoCD/Flux integration to reconcile |
| Developer experience | API, SDK, CLI, MCP, Backstage, and a GitHub/GitLab bot. Preview infrastructure costs before you create them and get recommendations at PR time (Shift-Left FinOps: Proactive Cloud Cost Control). | Console, policies, a public API (Expert tier), and CRD/GitOps configuration |
| Pricing model | Three independent modules, priced separately: Kubernetes per-pod, Cloud Savings on a success fee (35% Start, 30% Scale, paid only on verified savings), and Cost Governance a flat monthly fee. You buy only what you use. | Per-vCPU pricing (free up to 300 vCPUs, then $2 and $4 per monthly vCPU; Enterprise on request); the commitments product is performance-based |
Where LevelFour wins
- ✓LevelFour is GitOps-native: each change is a pull request your ArgoCD or Flux pipeline applies, so Git stays the source of truth; PerfectScale patches the live cluster via its agent and relies on ArgoCD or Flux config to reconcile the drift.
- ✓LevelFour is a single complete platform spanning cloud and Kubernetes across the workload and compute layers; PerfectScale's flagship is Kubernetes-focused, with rate optimization in a separate product.
- ✓LevelFour writes the Karpenter NodePool change itself and ships it as a reviewable pull request; PerfectScale rightsizes pods and surfaces NodePool recommendations to feed Karpenter, but does not modify Karpenter itself.
- ✓LevelFour drives the full optimization loop from your own workflow through an API, SDKs, CLI, MCP, and a Git bot, for engineers and AI agents alike.
